Teoh Hui Yu's e-Portfolio
In this project, we were required to produce minimum six sketches exploring and experimenting on six different topics, which were: Lines and haches, object in nature context, series of 5 minutes sketch, human activities, building facade perspective, and structual and joint. This project was concentrate on application of different types of sketching, rendering the technique and rendering medium in visualization and observation of spaces and objects. Also, it aimed to equip students with good understanding of the basic of sketches and visual communication. Our group had chosen to site visit at KL Buterfly Park, LRT station and Sultan Abdul Samad Building. My group members are Ricky Wong Yii, Vicky Lee Wei kee, Tan Zi Cin, Teo Kian Boon and Tan Jessie.

Reflection:
Through this project, I had learnt to use many types of techniques and medium to render. In my sketches, I had used pencil, pen, watercolor, charcoal pen and marker pen. This is the first time I use pen, charcoal pen and marker pen to sketch. It was fun to sketch by using charcoal even though it can make my paper dirty easily. I had learnt that when we sketch or draw, we need to be patient. The sketches that I was not satisfy I would threw it and redo again, just to make sure I can get the most nice one. I had learnt that in order to make my sketches nicer, I need to put some effort and used different kind of techniques such as shadowing. Otherwise, we would not get a good result. I also realized that before we start to sketch an object, firstly we need to observe the object well. Through this project, I had learnt many types of rendering methods and also, my drawing skills had been improved.
Class Work
Before our project two: technical drawing, we were required to work in a group to measure a chosen classroom and draw out a floor plan and 4 elevations. This was the first time we draw like an architect. Our plan and elevations was drawn according to scale.
Here are our drawings:

Project Two : Technical Drawings
In this individual project, we were required to choose on two objects to observe and draw out according to scale. Each object we were required to produce a plan, two elevations, two sections and a detail. We were drawn on A3 paper with format. The objects that I had chosen were a bottle and a tin.
Here are my technical drawings:

Reflection:
Through this project, I had learnt how to observe an object in detail. As our lecturer had teaches us how to draw plan and elevations, I found easier in doing this project. This is the first time I used T-square and set square to draw. I had learnt that every thickness of the Art line pen have meaning. The more nearer to us, we need to use thicker pen and vice versa. In this project, I was used Art line pen 0.1, 0.3, 0.5 and 1.0. And, for the first time, I learnt how to write in Architectural writing. From this project, I had improved my observations skill and my drawing skill. And most importantly, I had learnt how to draw technical drawing.
Project Three(A): Site Analysis & Design Proposed
For this Project 3(A), we were required to do a site analysis on the chosen location in Taylor’s University Lakeside campus. We were required to produce a site analysis report and presented it to lecturers on the submission date. My group members were the same persons as my previous project. Our chosen location was the main entrance roundabout. We were required to measure our site and drew out the plan, elevations and sections. Besides, we need to collect the data to put inside our report including sun path, topography, wind direction, hydrology, temperature zoning, pedestrian circulation, vehicle circulation, and lightning area. Moreover, we also need to analyze on the SWOT of our site.
Here are some photos taken from our site:

Project Three(B): Art Installation
Reflection:
Through this project, I had known the strength, weakness, opportunities and threats of our site. Working in a group made the work run smoothly and faster. I learnt to be patient in doing this project. As we need to collect the data and information that we need, we need to go to the site frequently. In order to get the measurement, we were not cared how people see us and I even stand at the fountain just to get the measurement of it. It was a good experience for me as I learnt to put my job and responsibility in front of everything. I learnt how to convince people to do our survey and be polite when they asked me questions regarding our project. Through this project, my observation skill had been improved and I learnt how to make our report informative. The site analysis report that we had done was very useful for our next project, which is Project 3(B): Art Installation.
Project 3(B) was our final project in Design Visualization and it was an individual work. In this project, we were required to design an art installation at the chosen site that we had done in Project 3(A), which is the main entrance roundabout. Our art installation needed to be done by referring to the site analysis report that we had done, according to the SWOT. We need to do an art installation model and also an A1 board for our presentation. In my A1 board, I had included the introduction for my art installation, idea development, concept of ideas, site plan, perspective, plan, elevations and cross sections. My title for my art installation was ‘Insight’.
Here is the introduction for my art installation:

Reflection:
Through this project, I had learnt how to design a function able art installation. Throughout this project, my ideas had been rejected and accepted a few times. But the moment when I complete my project and look at my work, I feel happy. In this project first I had learnt to think critically and creatively. I learnt to make a thing functional and eye-catchy. Thanks to my lecturer for giving me lots and advice and opinion. Besides, I learnt to accept criticize from lecturer and I learnt to be open-minded in accepting all the advice given by them. Also, I had learnt to be patient. Making the model and arranging the A1 board to make it informative were needed a lot of time.
